Plaster is a versatile material in this process, used in both mold making and casting. You can make plaster copies of a statue or statue model by creating a two-part plaster mold, then pouring liquid plaster into the hardened mold. When the plaster dries and the mold is separated, you will have a perfect copy of your statue model. The new 3D-printed casts are here and far more comfortable than anything plaster. The waterproof casts feature an open-lattice custom design that is made specifically for each patient. I opened this book with the expectation that it would be about, at least principally, plaster casts of classical antiquity’s statuary (e.g., Roman, Greek, Near Eastern). Wrong.
